They’re not the same. Older film technology uses dye, which fades and turns purple within 2–3 years — that’s also when heat rejection drops off. Some older metallic films interfere with cell signal, GPS, and remote start. Most cars are done in 1–3 hours depending on coverage. Sedans and coupes typically finish in 1–2 hours. SUVs and trucks closer to 3. PPF and ceramic coating take longer — 1–3 days depending on the area covered. We’ll give you a firm timeline when you book.

It comes down to materials. Older films use dyed polyester. UV breaks the dye down chemically over time — that’s the purple color you see, and that’s also when heat rejection collapses. XPEL doesn’t use dye at all. Carbon and nano-ceramic technology has no chemical to break down, so the film performs the same in year 10 as it did on day one.
